MOMA was founded in 1929 in an office apartment in downtown New York, as a trench to achieve greater acceptance of abstract art. In 1939 it moved to its own headquarters on 53rd Street, just off Fifth Avenue, whose façade is one of the icons of American modernism.

Its creator, Yoshio Taniguchi, author of several museums in Japan, explicitly discarded the idea of creating a work for astonishment, like those of Frank Gehry or Santiago Calatrava. -A museum is a cup of tea,» explained the Japanese, to indicate that what matters, what has the leading role, is the content and not the building. The new MOMA is a low-intensity building, respectful of the pre-existing and with very large abstract spaces that stand out and do not compete with the works. [2]

The MoMA -Museum of Modern Art in New York- is the largest museum of modern and contemporary art in the city and one of the most recognized in the world. If this is your first visit to MoMA -or even your first trip to New York- we don’t recommend you visit all levels. You’d spend all day there and we know that time is limited and even more so on a first trip to New York.

But the big news that will delight many is on the first floor. From now on, you will have free access to the temporary exhibitions from the street and without waiting in line! The best way to have a first contact with the museum without spending a lot of money or investing too much time.
