As a preview of the album, the first single, “Beyond Here Lies Nothin'”, was made available for free download from Dylan’s official website on March 30. On April 6, “I Feel A Change Comin’ On” was released in streaming format via The Times website.[15] The album’s cover features a photograph of the album’s cover art.

The album cover features a photograph by Bruce Davidson, an American photographer, titled “Brooklyn, NY 1965” and also used on the cover of Larry Brown’s book of short stories Big Bad Love.[29] The image also appeared in Martin Scorsese’s 2005 documentary film No Direction Home.

Columbia released the album in three formats: CD, LP and as a digital download. The first format in turn includes two editions, a single edition and a three-CD deluxe edition: the original album, a CD with the “Friends & Neighbors” episode of the Theme Time Radio Hour radio show and a DVD with an interview with Roy Silver, Dylan’s first manager, recorded for Martin Scorsese’s documentary No Direction Home and discarded.
