elefante y castillo londinense

Elephant and Castle is a major railway junction located in the London Borough of Southwark, South London, England. It is also used as a name for the surrounding area.[1] It is also used as a name for the surrounding area.[1] The Elephant.

The Elephant, as it is known, is formed by the intersections of major streets connected by a short road called Elephant and Castle, part of the A3. Between these intersections, on the eastern side, is the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre, with an office building called Hannibal House on top. To the north of this, bordering Newington Causeway and New Kent Road is a large residential block called Metro Central Heights. And also the 43-storey Estrata residential block is just south of the shopping center on Walworth Road. Elephant and Castle has largely replaced the original name of the area, which was formerly known as Newington.

The name comes from an inn that stood there centuries ago and bore that name. Previously, the site of the inn was occupied by a blacksmith and cutler and the coat of arms of the cutler’s guild shows an elephant with a castle, a probable reference to the use of elephant ivory in knife handles.

The site of the building was rebuilt in 1816 and again in 1898. Now a pub, the Elephant & Castle, at the junction of New Kent Road and Newington Causeway, was part of the comprehensive redevelopment plan carried out in 1960, as the area was one of the worst affected by the bombing of London during World War II.

Today, in the center of this intersection of tracks is the Michael Faraday Memorial, a large stainless steel box built in honor of Michael Faraday who was born nearby. Also born and raised in the area were Charles Chaplin and Michael Caine.
